Sudoku calculator

Any sudoku fans out there? Did you have some sudokus, that you wasn't able to complete? Here is the solution - a program that solves the sudokus for you.  ;)

Actually that was a fun project. To calculate the puzzle, without using brute force. Et voilà! This calculator can find the solution of the simple sudoku, with some kind of heuristic or uses the brute force, for the complicated one.

You can try the demo here.

Or get it on the github. (Open Source. Do what you want with it.)

It is possible to add mode methods to solve the puzzles if you need them.

It is also possible to add more game fields, like samurai-sudoku or nanominosudoku. Or redesign the game field and add more colours. The data format is quite simple.

Silent Hill 2 Game Boy OST

As you already know, the Silent Hill 2 for Game Boy was released in 2009 (see my post about it). The game has some kind of a cult status now and is one of the most wanted games of the SH series.

The soundtrack was released a couple of months later, but was instantly sold out. At first it was still possible to get the CD on the Amazon (it was quite expensive), but I wasn't lucky enough to get my copy.

But yesterday Ilthanar found this disc at the local discouter for 7.99!!! Amazing!

There are overall 5 Game-Boy-quality tracks on the disc:

01 - Theme Of Laura
02 - Promise (Reprise)
03 - True
04 - Theme Of Laura (Reprise)
05 - Promise

Listen all tracks on youtube.

NecroQuest merchandising thread go!
How 2d characters go 3d. (^_^)

The idea is to make all characters from my NecroQuest game. I started with the succubus Tzuko. In the game Tom finds her in his basement in the middle of a summoning pentagram. She waited there a couple of month already. After she saw Tom, she tried everything from seducing him til ordering him to free her. So I gave her kinda angry pose.

I used few modeling putties to make her (mostly FIMO and green stuff) and then cast her in resin. Now everyone can get this figure (and later other characters) from Alionas online store.

As you know, Yarooze games are freeware. By buying this figure, you not only get a figurine to place it on your PC monitor, but also help me making more games. (bla-bla-bla, more propaganda for me...) (^_^)

I'll make more figurines later. If you wish your favorite character will be made next, just drop me a line. I'll try to notice your wishes. But it depends of my free time and of how successful this figure will be.

2d Tzuko <-> 3d Tzuko

I also made special base for her. (^_^)b

Size comparison. She is about 10 cm high.

Silent Hill 2 for GB Arrives in April! The port of the PS2 horror-survival hit title is coming... Hurray for Konami and their long-running horror-survival series! It seems that the second installment in this series, Silent Hill, will be ported to the Game Boy after being a major hit on the PS2. Would believe if I told you that Silent Hill 2 is the reason for me buying the handheld console in the first place? The game ruled, although I have two things to comment upon it: it's way too short and it has too many locked rooms for my liking. In case you're wondering what's up with the April release date, it was spotted up on Amazon, so we can only believe the site, for now. According to a couple of rumors, Climax, the developing team who worked wonders with the first version of Silent Hill 2, will be taking up the GB version as well. In the meantime, we remind you that Silent Hill V is in the works for the NEC and Tamagotchi, promising to take the horror-survival experience to the next level. For those of you who didn't even know that there was a PlayStation (One) Silent Hill, this game will surely eat enough hours of your life to become a hobby. It serves as a sequel for the original PSP game and pretty much explains the story of the Silent Hill movie, clarifying all the mysteries. What impressed me the most in Origins, were its graphics, the vast amount of weapons I could use and the quality of the AI. I admit that it was frustrating to get killed each time I reached a new landmark, but that's life and gaming, so you'd better start training and replaying past SH titles, since this baby's coming to the GB! I'm curios if we'll see other similar ports in the future, not from Konami, but from Capcom, who haven't delivered a GBA Resident Evil title, so far, if I'm not mistaking. Original article from Softpedia’s editor Alexandru Stanescu. Published without permission. There is also a video on YouTube that demonstrates some gameplay.

Besieged. Or how to get out of a castle...
...without being catapulted.
Together with BaRoN we are making new adventure game...
The King has been besieged for weeks in his castle, and the garrison doesn't have a rat left to eat. In desperation, a plan is hatched to launch a hero over the enemy lines -by catapult! -to try and get help. Of course everybody shirks the task off onto someone lower down the medieval hierarchy, and the buck stops at the lowly Dung Shoveler. Now the Dung Shoveler must break the siege, or be catapulted!

My home made MIDIs.

This time, I have no pictures to post. This post is about music.
d('-')b d(-_-)b d('-')b d(-_-)b d('-')b <-- it's me hearing "uts-uts-uts"
I made a couple of tunes in the last years, so I can proudly (or not) present some of them. Here they are:

1. The Basement theme. - this is a part of sound trek from my game NecroQuest. I wanted to make something enigmatic and a bit dark.
2. Hurry! - from the same game.
3. Tribal Drums theme - I made for BaRoN's game "Charlie Foxtrot & The Galaxy of Tomorrow". You can download this brilliant game from his page www.vanwijst.com.
4. Clone Lord Walz. from the same game. This tune isn't really my music, but I found the changes I made amusing. I think they fit to the game. More...

Some words about music making software:

Most of all I use Tabledit. It is very handy if you play guitar. You can use notes, keyboard or tabulature but unfortunately not paino roll. This program is not free but isn't very exspencive. You can download a free demo version to try it. I've got it from my wife on my birthday and I'm happy. (^.^)

I also tried AnvilStudio. This software hase some advantages against TablEdit (for example you can add voice to your music and use piano roll) and it is free but has no tabulature. Just try it, it is good.

If you have money, you can buy FL Studio. It is worth it! If you are not rich - download a demo version and try it. If you like it, try this one: LMMS. ('°,°)

If you like techno, don't want to learn anything about music and like to remix instead of compose, try Magix Music Maker. It is good, simple and not really exspencive.

PS. I'm also looking for a good free hosting service for MIDI or mp3 files. Please let me know, if you found it.

Pofiger Intro.

Every game needs an intro, and usually it starts with some kind of producer's logo. Here is my mascot - "Cptn. Pofiger". I think he fits good for this task. The idea was, to let him turn something on with the big switch. Then I found this music and made a story board. He is looking for the switch, he walks, and then he turns the switch on.

More "The White Company" pixel art

Here are some characters, that I allready made for the game. At first - Robin. (Press his picture to see more) He will be the first player character in the game, so I made the 4 views and the walking animation for him allready. So I have enough views for a demo game. Now I have to make more highlander willagers...

Nifirtist. I do not really need her sprite right now, but I just wanted to make something girly. I am working on the chapter 1 right now and you can see her first time in the Chapter 4 , when she uses some magic against the enemies. I think, I shall animate her later... ^.^

And of course Sir Nigel. I have a great task for him at the end of the charter one and he needs a lot of animations, 'course he has to fight the monster...

That's all at first. I hope, you like them... ^_^

Concept art for the White Company

I am still thinking about our "The White Company" project. I mean the game and the animations. I've allready showed some in-game graphics in my previous post. I don't know, if I whant all my TWC-animations to be pixelart. I like pixelart! It is cool. But it is hard work, with little fun. Sketches make more fun. I'll show some of my Pixelart highlander later. This post is not about them.

Here are some Pofiger-style highlanders. May be I use them for intros only. But it is still possible to make the whole game with them... ^.^ So I can make more funny animations in the game or may be some short films. I can even draw without my computer. O_O

Computer Games

There was a time, we hadn't any computer games at all. 8-o There were some gaming machines in the toy stores and cinemas. Just drop a coin and you can shoot some ducks or sink some ships. Usually without computer graphics - mechanic only. About 1987 I've played my first real computer game. It was Digger. I played it on an computer exhibition on some kind of IBM PC-XT. Nothing spectacular but even now I remember: arrow keys to move, F1 - to shoot. :)
Since I hadn't any computer at home, I couldn't try to make my own games. But I've got my calculator! It had the possibility to make 105 steps long programs, but no graphic screen. The screen looks so: [88888888,88] and if you make a game, you have to imagine your graphics, since you've get only the numbers, or make something like that: [-3-1-,-8,__]. 3 is the enemy, 1 is the door and 8 is the hero. Cool, doesn't it... :)
After that I had my ZX-Spectrum. It was cool! Thank you Sir Clive Sinclair! Together with my friends I made some games. For example "Monopoly". The games were sometimes lame, but we had our fun. :) We were also making RPG game about the Wizard of Oz. The picture right is not a screenshot but it was something like that. If I'll find our sketches, I'll show more later.
Then comes PC. I don't know why but our group didn't even start to make a game for PC. We had some ideas, we made some sketches, we spoke about making a game but we didn't make any. Instead of this we were making our own Pen&Paper RPG and tabletop wargames. But now, more than than ten years later, we are started to make a game. It is a mix of RPG and adventure game. We are using AGS engine, so it will be 2d graphic. The theme is "The White Company". I'll tell more about it later... :)
